Assignment Goals:
We were assigned to groups of 4-5, where each member would learn about the different histories, strengths, weaknesses, and overall aspects of an empire (e.g. Ottoman, Mughal, Ming & Qing, and Muscovy/Russian). After familiarizing ourselves with our respective empires, we were tasked to create our own “frankenstein empire” where we could incorporate characteristics of the previous empires we’ve just learned about and make our own brand new empire which would be presented via slideshow to our peers.
Why I want to show this work:
I’m proud that despite initial awkward moments of silence, our group was able to complete this assignment and had some good laughs along the way. It was also interesting to learn about the previous empires and parts of their history as well.
21st century skills:
VI. Global Awareness Skills were used in this assignment as we learned about the different cultures of once great empires of different lands that were the beginning of the countries we have today. Immersing ourselves in it, we were able to use that knowledge to build an empire of our own!
New Growth:
What was most difficult about completing this task was staying on track and actually deciding on what we wanted to do as a group, but we were eventually able to overcome that. Though looking back, we could have made the slides more presentable than we did instead of spending so much time on making our empire. But I do believe that each member had a thorough grasp on each aspect (political structure, social structure, geography, economy, etc.) of our frankenstein empire because of that, especially since all group members had to present the entire slideshow individually.
