Assignment Goals:
For Chemistry, it's pretty much a given where we'd learn about atoms; and as you'd have it, in one of our projects, we were tasked to make an atomic model of a given element. We could do it any way we wish, so long the parts (neutrons, protons, elections) were all the right size to scale, a label with the atom's description is attached, and said model could be hung it up.
Why I want to show this work:
There were quite a few projects I liked from other classes, but this time I wanted to include something from chemistry as well, so I decided to mention my atomic model project! It was actually kind of funny, but if I didn't use this 21st century skill, I don't think my project would have been as nice as it turned out to be!
21st century skills:
Designing the model of how I wanted it to turn out was easy enough, and finding all the information about the atom that I needed to use on it's description card (e.g. correct atomic nubmers, sizes, placings, arrangements, electron configurations, etc.), but it was finding the materials so that it would look presentable that was quite difficult, especially the rings. At first, I was about settled that I would simply use some wire that I would bend to make the rings; though they weren't pretty, they would suffice. However, this time, I decided to do something I would have never done before: ask for help. It was when Ms. S was making her rounds, to make sure we have everything we needed. I decided to ask if I could use some of her past students' model parts, though they were the prettier ones, so I couldn't use it. On the other hand, she was able to find me something I can use, which I did in the end, and made it all that much more presentable. Honestly, I can't get all the credit because she was the one to offer me rather than me ask her about it directly, but without II. Communication Skills on both ends, I wouldn't have had the pretty model I was able to make thanks to her. Thus, I think from this experience, despite my past )and current) discomfort for accepting aid from others, I will be a little more open about asking for help where I can, when I can!
New Growth:
I was able to experience improvement in this 21st century skill thanks to my teacher, and am most proud of just having the materials I needed thanks to her! If I could improve from this, I think I would've asked for help from the start so I wouldn't have been as stressed as I was in the latter of the project, since I did start somewhat later because of lack of materials.
