Assignment Goals:
As this was an Engineering & Fabrication 1 class, we were to have something to do with computers at one point or another. In the first quarter of school, we were directed to a website which took a whole unit of studying it, dedicated to utilizing this program, involving us students to familiarize ourselves with the new CAD program. The website allows you to "create detailed and precise floorplans" - floorplancreator.net, where you can scale them to size, creating and viewing the interior of each floor (you can make multiple floors), adjust the walls, doors, and windows to however seems fit, and add various furnitures as well! Some of the assignments we had regarding this, were following along to tutorials to help showcase our house's floorplan [as a starting point], and creating a hotel with the given list of things to add (e.g. 6 doors, 6 rooms, 5 bathrooms, 2 lobbies, a kitchen, a cafe, etc.). After having these to practice our skills with this program, we had the end goal of designing how our ZONE 1 Workshop would look like or how various stations, that we had previously thought out, were to be arranged. This was to help our teachers and others involved in the conctruction of our brand new workshop to give some options in how the ACTUAL workshop could turn out.
Why I want to show this work:
Usually when I hear that we are going to learn about anything computer-based such as coding or CAD program (Onshape or Tinkercad) like we've done in my past engineering classes, I always get scared, as I've never been good at it, especially when the assignment or project is free-ended, with not specific directions on what exactly to do (with all the little details and complications needed to understand and use the software). That was my biggest fear for this class, but this time however, I was much more comfortable with floorplancreator.net, as it was very simple to comprehend and understand. I'm also very proud that I was able to do better work than I would have with the other programs, so I wanted to showcase at least one technology-related project that I'm content with.
21st century skills:
As this is using a CAD program, it's only right that I've used and improved my I. Informational Skills, where I was able to apply new relevant computer technology, integrating, learning, and understanding new technologies (floorplancreator.org) and even applying it in real life situations (planning out and designing what we would like our engineering workshop to look like).
New Growth:
Honestly, this is one of the few times that I wouldn't change anything about what I did in this unit, even if I could start all over again, as I feel like I was able to get a good grasp on understanding the CAD program. want to improve on time management, presenting well, and not over-doing future projects (which will make it look too much). I believe that learning this new skill could come in handy someday when a need such as this (or at least similar) arises.
