Assignment Goals:
For the Bill assignment in Humanities, we were tasked to come up with a bill addressing a problem in the country that we cared about. We were given two templates to work with - one to research and analyze the issue we were addressing, and one for the final draft of the bill we were making. The bill we made was designed to help the country to be rid of what we thought were problems that needed to be dealt with.
Why I want to show this work:
I chose this work sample because I thought it was rare where we would have an assignment or project that would relate to politics, so I thought it was one of the things that stood out among the other things we did in school.
21st century skills:
I believe that my bill directly impacts our learning about our government because this bill includes the “president” (Mr. Adam) and the “House of Representatives” and the “Senate” (our peers) that will go through the process of making bills into laws where we can further understand and participate in what the process of approving a bill would be like. This is where VIII. Civic Literacy and Engagement is applied.
Current Growth:
This sample has enabled me to have a further understanding of how the U.S. government and laws work, especially since I was never really interested in politics. By having this project, I was able to learn more about laws, how long a process it takes to make a law, how most bills are never made into laws, how detailed and precise you need to be when making laws to prevent any loopholes, and more!
New Growth:
I think this project has helped me realize all the more the importance of understanding and knowing about your country and its government because it directly affects the people of the country, myself included.
