Assignment Goals:
We just finished this project, where we will apply our knowledge of Transformations (reflections, translations, rotations, and dilations) while creating a design of our group's dream apartment! First, were were to choose one design among the four that each teammate made, then to make six copies of it, using translation to move it across to put the apartment rooms beside each other, rotation and reflection to flip the design 180 degrees. This would make three side-by-side apartment rooms facing each other, with only a hallway to seperate them. And at the end of said hallway, we use dilation to multiply the area of a normal apartment by two, to make a suite room that's twice the size of the previous six rooms. Finally, we were to give a finaly location and price for rent per month.
Why I want to show this work:
It's rare that we get to design something, and even more so that we get to design something as a group project. We also got to have a lot of fun in this project, and was even quite relaxing as well. Besides the times when opinions on the smaller things clash, we had everything good and done at a good pace. By the end of it, what I'm most proud of is my group, that we all got along really well and was able to turn in a good final product. Even if we had to restart everything, the only thing I'd change is to not make the little mistakes while drawing the final design.
21st century skills:
Using VII. Financial, Economic, & Business Literacy Skills I could use and further develop those skills (especially since I don't usually do this type of thing despite wanting to) by actively researching what are some good prices in various dream cities we were planning to have our appartment in (such as London, New York, Miami, California, and even Japan) to make appropriate economical choices. We'd even convert prices sometimes in cases of different currencies, but settled on a final price for our luxurious, dream apartments: $30,000/month in New York.
New Growth:
I found this pretty similar to what I did last year in Spanish I, when we had to make plans and budget a trip to travel to a spanish-speaking country. I was also researching for reasonable prices for a fun trip, just like how I tried researching reasonable prices for these apartments. I could use this experience to learn how to handle my own finances (or even others) in the future, as I'd know how to do it by that time and to make good economic choices that'd be good for my wallet when I do have to eventually do things on my own.
