Assignment Goals:
As this was a part of Spanish class, a chosen elective between spanish and art, there was bound to be something to involve learning about the countries and its cultures that do speak Spanish. This project's main purpose was to learn and research about your group's chosen spanish-speaking country, concerning things such as the climate, geography, holidays, food, entertainment, history, and current events or happenings of said country, and present it in two ways: (1) Creating a slideshow and (2) Making a creative (poster, model, etc.), both with the researched information found, and then finally, present it to the class. Another thing the project was for, is to use the posters to fill up the empty white space in the teacher's room. And what better way to do it than with students research and creatives on each, respective latino culture!
Why I want to show this work:
This is the one class that I'm sure that I'll be able to involve new learnings on other places, countries, peoples, and cultures. Therefore, I wanted to showcase something that shows something from an entirely new place, where things are different from our everyday life in Hawaii: a good change of scenery and even world views.
21st century skills:
Using VI. Global Awareness is pretty much a given here [being a Spanish Class and all]. I was able to learn about a whole new culture across the globe, and sneak a little peak of what kind of lifestyle they live and, well, become more aware of what our next-door-neighbors are like. I know I'm repeating these quite a bit, but I'm only speaking the truth: through this project, we researched and were able to open our horizons on a whole other world, practically, and get a taste of what and how humans have turned out.
New Growth:
Learning about Nicaragua with my group was quite fun! Well, for me anyway, since I got to research about what foods and entertainments the country had to offer (my mouth was even watering at times). And as a plus, I was even able to get closer to some of my peers through this group project! But of course, there's always something to improve, and this time was no different. I do believe that we could have worked and finished quicker and more efficiently, as we kind of did most of it pretty last-minute. I suppose, even if we did finish it on time in the end, we could have done the same amount of work at an earlier time and maybe even get some breathing room before the deadline. But all in all, I'm just happy that we finished it, but still with acceptable quality.
